Officer shoots man in Highland Park

— A traffic stop led to an officer-involved shooting early this morning on the border of Highland Park and Eagle Rock.

LAPD Northeast Division officers conducted a traffic stop at about 2 a.m. near Nordyke Street and Avenue 55.  The male driver in his 30s exited the vehicle at which time the officer-involved shooting occurred, said Officer Jane Kim with LAPD Media Relations.

The driver was transported to a hospital, where he is in stable condition. A female passenger was uninjured and is being interviewed by investigators, said Kim.

A handgun, believed to be the driver’s, was recovered at the scene. Kim was not able to say what prompted the shooting or where the handgun was found.

The investigation is ongoing.
