The Silverlake Conservatory of Music has moved to Los Feliz, where L.A. Weekly took an opening tour with one of the conservatory’s founders, Flea, the bass player for the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
“I’m not a unique person, there are lots of kids like me who are going to find a sense of self, discipline and just a sense of love and belonging through music.” — Flea
SCM moved from its old location in Sunset Junction to a much larger space on Hollywood Boulevard, across the street from Wacko. It now offers 13 insulated lesson and practice rooms, and an assembly area with room for 150 guests.
Architect Barbara Bestor was also on hand for the opening, touting the advantages of the new building.
“It was a perfect match — it’s got a public street front, exciting architectural elements and the conservatory is a huge resource for the community.” — Barbara Bestor, architect
