East L.A. stabbing leaves one man dead


EAST LOS ANGELES —  Detectives are investigating the stabbing death of a 20-year-old man that took place Tuesday night near Belvedere Park and the Nueva Maravilla housing project.

Deputies responded to a call of an assault with a deadly at about 8:30 p.m. in the 4900 block of E. Cesar Chavez Avenue, according to a statement released by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, East Los Angeles Station.

When the deputies arrived at the scene,  they found a man lying in a parking lot with a stab wound to the upper torso. The victim, a 20-year-old black man, was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

No suspects have been apprehended. The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
