Bloody trail leads to East L.A. shooting victim

EAST LOS ANGELES — Sheriff’s deputies responding to reports of shooting early this morning followed a trail of blood on a sidewalk into an apartment building, where they found a Latino man suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper torso. The victim, located in a stairwell, was pronounced dead at the scene.

It’s not clear if the shooting, reported at 2:20 a.m. near Indiana Street and Whittier Boulevard is gang related, according to an advisory issued by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

No weapons were recovered at the scene, and there is no description of the suspect or suspects.

The investigation is ongoing and there is no additional information available.
