Silver Lake eyewear boutique headed for Echo Park

Eyewear boutique moving into former discount store

ECHO PARK —  Gogosha Optique, which has been selling high-end eyewear in Silver Lake since 2008, closed its Sunset Boulevard boutique at the end of last month as it prepares to move east into a former discount store in Echo Park. Its opening will help fill up one of several vacant spaces that had once dotted the block.

The eyewear shop will be moving to 1555 Sunset Boulevard, just east of Echo Park Avenue, according a post on the store’s Facebook page.  The new Echo Park store is scheduled to open in May. Gogosha’s store on Third Street will remain open and it will operate a pop-up shop as well in Hollywood.

The eyewear shop’s new Echo Park location was once home to Jumbo Bargain discount store, which closed in the summer of 2015. The space, which has been gutted to expose brick walls, has remained empty since. It’s not clear if Gogosha will occupy all or just part of the large space.

An influx of new landlords and the closure of long-time shops had left many vacancies on the north side of the block.  But those empty spaces have been filling up in recent months with the opening of a new bike shop, eyebrow threading salon and martial arts studio.  Meanwhile, American Barbershop from Santa Ana continues to work on transforming a former shoe store into an 18-seat shop.
