Shopper & Diner: More food in Frogtown; less vinyl Highland Park; anyone for an aguachile tostada?

Another dining option is coming soon to the Los Angeles River in Frogtown. Spoke Bicycle Café announced on Instagram that its kitchen is almost ready to go. “We can’t wait to start our delicious #food menu this #spring,” the post states. What’s on the menu? We’ll have to wait a few more weeks for that intel. Spoke Bicycle Café is located in the 3000 block of Coolidge in Frogtown.

In other Shopper & Diner News:

  • Mariscos el Faro in Highland Park was named in LA Weekly as one of the best Mexican restaurants in Los Angeles by Daniel Godinez, chef and owner of Maestro in Pasadena. Try the aguachile tostada. “It’s fresh and delicious every time,” Godinez claims. Mariscos El Faro is located in the 6100 block of N. Figueroa in Highland Park.
  • In the mood for huaraches and homemade aguas frescas? Head to El Huarache Azteca in Highland Park. LA Weekly recommends super huarache to share. A rarity in Los Angeles, the dish is composed of thick masa tortilla, meat, veggies, crema and salsa. Beans may come inside the super huarache, but that depends who’s at the helm of the kitchen. El Huarache Azteca is located in the 5200 block of York Boulevard in Highland Park.
  • Wombleton Records In Highland Park surprised its customers on Feb. 16 with its sudden closure, LA Weekly reports. The closure of the York Boulevard storefront was apparently such a secret that customers were basically “stunned” by the news. The Weekly said co-owner Ian Marshall left a message for customers, stating, “We’re keeping the space for other projects and we will have occasional events like the old days, but we’ve run our course as a day in day out retail shop.”
