Though Councilman Gil Cedillo is benefitting from his opponent’s recent troubles in the District 1 runoff, he still faces criticism that his staff has been unresponsive and that they don’t attend community events, according to the L.A. Times.
After having refused a Times reporter’s requests for an interview during the primary, Cedillo spoke to The Times last week, saying he is taking action in response to criticism that his office is unresponsive:
“It’s unacceptable,” he said of those complaints, adding that his office has replaced staff members in the last six months and that constituents can expect an “upgrade.” He also acknowledged that such changes may be too late for some in the district. “I say, OK, I understand if you don’t want to vote for me,” Cedillo said.
Cedillo’s challenger in the runoff, Joe Bray-Ali, has been losing support over comments he made in a web forum that encourages racism and fat-shaming. Bray-Ali also recently admitted to extramarital affairs and problems with his business taxes.
The runoff election is scheduled for May 16. The First Council District includes all or portions of Angeleno Heights, Cypress Park, Echo Park, Glassell Park, Highland Park, Lincoln Heights and Mount Washington. Don’t Know What District You Are In? Go Here
