I’m from the prairies in Canada.”
- White Memorial Medical Center in Boyle Heights has opened a $3 million clinic to help prevent amputations and treat the wounds of diabetic patients. An estimated 7,000 legs or feet are amputated each year among diabetics in California, and the amputation rate in the low-income area around the hospital is eight times higher than in wealthier communities.
