Good Works: Sleeping Bags & Toiletries Needed for Northeast L.A Homeless

Donations are needed to create toiletry kits for the homeless | Kathleen Doheny

With summer waning, sporting goods stores are slashing prices on sleeping bags and other outdoor necessities. If you’re planning to replenish your camping “linens,” how about picking up an extra sleeping bag to donate to the Northeast LA Homeless Coalition’s summer drive?

The drive is sponsored by Councilmember Jose Huizar and the Northeast LA Homeless Coalition to benefit Recycled Resources for the Homeless.

  • Northeast L.A. Sleeping Bag Drive
  • Sunday, Aug. 6: 10 am – 3 pm
  • Eagle Rock City Hall, 2035 Colorado Blvd.

Also needed and welcomed: gently used sleeping bags or blankets, toiletry kits and underwear (new) for men and women.

All donors are invited to stay for coffee, cookies and conversation about how else to help our neighbors in need.

“Last winter’s sleeping bag drive exceeded expectations,” says Shaun Newton, co-chair of the NELA Homeless Coalition, ”and we hope to surpass that drive this time around, especially for undergarments and toiletry kits. We need all sizes of underwear.”
