Former El Chavo to morph into 3 Los Feliz restaurants

LOS FELIZ – Plans for the former El Chavo restaurant may be what you’d expect for a storefront so close to the busy intersection of Hollywood and Sunset boulevards: Turning one restaurant into three, Eater LA reports.

A back building that used to house offices and a small boutique is to become the two additional restaurants. As for other changes, Eater LA estimates the complex is increasing the outside seating to 200 seats. Whether all that open-air seating will belong to all three restaurants or just one is still unclear. Construction also includes a new elevator tower facing Sunset Boulevard, Eater said.

Permits also indicate that the project will include a rooftop dining patio and that two separate buildings will be connected by a bridge.

El Chavo, which has been in business since 1966, closed up again last year after numerous changes in ownership, chefs and culinary approaches.

The other big restaurant/development question on this section of Sunset Boulevard is the former Acapulco Mexican restaurant across the street from the former El Chavo.  The building has remained vacant since Acapulco closed in January.

  1. I miss their ropa vieja.

  2. Who cares. Whole area sucks now.

  3. Increasing back patio seating by 200? Say goodbye to that parking lot.

  4. Who is the restaurant group behind it? What type of food?

  5. That’s if the local bullies will permit it. It seems the locals don’t like nice things.
