Police chase suspect through Echo Park and Silver Lake [updated]

Around and around they went. A suspect in an SUV appeared to be traveling in circles around Echo Park and Silver Lake tonight as media and police helicopters hovered overhead and squad cars followed on the ground. The pursuit ended with the suspect being apprehended.

The vehicle, which was believed to be a Volkswagen SUV, had been driving with its lights off  primarily on the streets between Glendale Boulevard and Benton Way, north of Sunset Boulevard. But the pursuit, which was being tracked by TV as well as LAPD choppers, also traveled through Atwater Village and on the 2, 5 and 101 Freeways.

  1. That crazy idiot raced past our house on Angelus – the first time with two or three blazing cop cars on his tail. The second time, the cops had backed off, and he was just being tracked with a copter spotlight. Turning off his lights, he almost hit several pedestrians on our hill. Glad they got him.

    • Are you saying the car almost hit several people crossing the road?
Or did he almost hit several people standing on the sidewalk?
Or were they standing in the road – having come out of their homes at 11p.m. to await his arrival?

  2. It was like bizarre ‘surround-sound’ watching the chase on TV, knowing he was blocks from my house and hearing the copters overhead and the LAPD sirens on the street! Glad they got him and that no one was hurt. Isn’t it time they considered adding something to the enforcement code for a car chase which endangers so many lives?

  3. What is the suspect’s name?
