Police seek help in fatal shooting of Boyle Heights cyclist; victim identified

BOYLE HEIGHTS — Police are asking the public for help to find the gunman who shot and killed 21-year-old Ricardo Herrera Jr. early Tuesday morning as he and another cyclist were riding near the Indiana Gold Line station on the border of Boyle Heights and East Los Angeles.

Herrera and the other cyclists were shot at multiple times at about 1:30 a.m. near Indiana and 3rd streets. Herrera died after being transported to the other hospital. The other rider, an adult male, remains in the hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot injury.

The motive for the shooting is unknown at this time.
