Lincoln High honors memory of World War II hero; sergeant & police dog involved in City Terrace crash

Memorial: Sadao Munemori, who was posthumously awarded a Medal of Honor after being killed in battle during World War II, was honored with the dedication of a memorial at Lincoln High, where he was part of the graduating class of 1940. He died in Italy in April 1945 “when he threw himself upon a German hand grenade to shield his fellow soldiers from harm after knocking out two machine guns with grenades in a one-man frontal attack through direct fire from the enemy.” He was 23. Rafu Shimpo & LAUSD Daily

Crash: An L.A. Sheriff’s Department sergeant and his police dog received medical treatment after the SUV the sergeant was driving crashed with another vehicle at Rogers Street and City Terrace Drive in City Terrace. The sergeant suffered minor injuries and while the driver of the other vehicle was not harmed. The dog Folty, was taken to a veterinarian but there was no word if the animal was injured. KTLA
