Man sentenced in fatal 110 Freeway crash; Occidental College student makes the grade on roller derby team

Freeway Crash:  A Pasadena resident received a 10-year prison sentence in connection with a crash last year on the 110 Freeway in Elysian Park that resulted in the death of a 3-month-old girl. EGP News

Derby Doll: A profile of Occidental College student Shea Backes, a sociology and French double major who also skates on the all-female L.A. Derby Dolls FreshMeat team. “I think roller derby is just a really unique space for women to have a community around doing something they love and something that makes you feel incredibly physically powerful,” said Backes, who is a senior at the Eagle Rock college.
