ECHO PARK — The surge of new residential development south of the 101 Freeway continues as a developer plans to build a 73-unit apartment building on several lots on Alvarado Street near Temple Street.
A filing with the Planning Department says that a duplex and single-family home at 418 N. Alvarado will be demolished to make way for the 65-foot-tall apartment complex across an alley from a gas station.
In return for including six apartments for very-low income tenants, the developer wants to build a project that is more dense and taller than would normally be allowed.
No further details were available about the project.
The apartment building is one of several that have been proposed or recently constructed in the Temple Street corridor between Downtown and East Hollywood.
