Boyle Heights hit-and-run victim was a skid row bride; SWAT standoff; LAPD puts car clubs on notice over Elysian Park shows

Hit-and-Run: Cynthia Szukala, the 69-year-old woman who was killed by a hit-and-run driver in Boyle Heights, was remembered as a skid row bride and a woman who volunteered at her church,  reports the L.A. Times. Police said they have identified the big-rig truck that struck Szukala and the trucking company that owns the vehicle but provided no other information.

Standoff:  The SWAT team was called in after police said they saw a man who appeared to be holding a gun and another suspect run into an apartment building near Olympic Boulevard and Lorena Street in Boyle Heights.  One person was apprehended after an hours-long standoff. CBS2

Car ShowThe LAPD Northeast Division said that two car club picnics and  informal shows planned for Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 in Elysian Park are not permitted and that cars “deemed illegal” will be towed and impounded.
