Fire strikes Highland Park area church; Boyle Heights suspect runs across rooftops; MLK Day closures

Church Fire: Firefighters quickly put out a blaze early this morning in the 129-year-old Church of the Angels on the border of Pasadena and Highland Park. In addition to fire and smoke damage, there were also signs of vandalism inside the historic Episcopalian church at 1100 N. Avenue 64. The church is located on the Pasadena side of Avenue 64, but L.A. firefighters responded to the blaze, knocking it down in about 14 minutes. Pasadena arson investigators are looking into the cause of the fire. KNBC & Loudlabs

CHASE: An armed suspect being pursued by police ran across the rooftops of Animo Ellen Ochoa Charter Middle School before surrendering to officers outside the campus on Indiana Street. It’s not clear what prompted the chase. ABC7

MLK DAY: Most government offices, schools and banks will be closed and there will be no mail delivery on Monday, Jan. 15 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Daily News
