Girl threatened with knife during Echo Park assault; city payouts to cyclists totaled nearly $19 million

Assault: Police arrested a man who allegedly grabbed and threatened an 8-year-old girl with a knife in the Echo Park Walgreens on Friday night. The suspect, who police believe may have been on drugs, ran off but was later apprehended by officers. ABC 7

Payouts: The city paid more than $19 million last year to settle lawsuits filed over the death and injuries of cyclists on damaged city streets.  Some of the largest settlements involved cases in which city did not repair broken pavement or fill potholes despite complaints being filed by residents or work crews.     L.A.
