East L.A. shooting leaves one woman dead, one injured

EAST LOS ANGELES — Detectives  are investigating a shooting that left one woman dead and another injured in the 4000 block of East 6th Street Monday night.

Deputies were dispatched to the scene at about 11 p.m. after receiving calls of an “illegal shooting” and a “gunshot victim” at the location, according to a statement released by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department.

The deputies discovered two women suffering from gunshot wounds at the scene. One of the women, whose body was on the sidewalk, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim was transported to a hospital where she remains in stable condition, according to the statement.

A suspect has not been identified and no weapon was recovered at the scene. Detectives said they believe the shooting may be gang related.
