Longtime Silver Lake restaurant El Cochinito won first place in the Cuban sandwich category at the International Cuban Sandwich Festival held earlier this month in Florida, the Los Angeles magazine reports. That’s excellent news for a third generation, family run restaurant that quietly sits between neighborhood newbies Fat Dragon and Trois Familia. Only Cuban bread, sweet ham, mojo-marinated pork, Swiss cheese, kosher pickles and mustard were allowed. Co-owner Daniel Navarro said that the win was “super overwhelming.” El Cochinito is at 3508 Sunset Blvd. near Golden Gate Ave. in Silver Lake.
