Police searching for suspect in Echo Park [updated]

Echo Park —  Police have sealed off some streets north of Sunset Boulevard near Alvarado Street as they search for a suspect, according to reports on Twitter.

Photos posted on Instagram show that police have closed off traffic at Alvarado and and Reservoir Street. One reader said traffic on Alvarado is jammed and recommended motorists avoid the area.

Simply Informed, a Twitter user who follows police scanner traffic, said officers had chased the suspect on foot.

However, LAPD media relations could not immediately confirm the details of the police activity. A spokesman said there are indications that the police activity is or might be winding down soon but did not have any details.

Update @ 9:31 PM: The suspect who was wanted for a felony was apprehended, said LAPD spokesman Mike Lopez.  No shooting took place, he said. No further details were available

  1. Quite the scoop here.

  2. I am on Elsinore and I stepped out and they were megaphoning the suspect to give himself up. So scary! The helicopters are gone now, but the non-emergency line isn’t answering so I have no idea what the outcome was. I hear police sirens directly outside my house.

  3. You guys were the only one reporting on it. Thank you so much. I was terrified!

  4. For several years I’ve noticed that the Eastsider is the only news source that does its best to cover our neighborhoods. Once in a while ABC will get involved.

The Eastsider could use more monetary support to keep getting news to us. I support via a monthly deductible.

    • Thanks Androg for your comment. I have donated once but you are right, when I heard the helicopters I went right to Eastsider because I knew I wouldn’t find the information elsewhere. And I pretty much visit the site daily. So I’m going to do a monthly donation too. We’d be at a great loss if they ceased to exist.

    • Thanks for the kind words and support!
