Echo Park car owners wake up to vandalism

ECHO PARK -- Several cars had their windows smashed and damaged overnight on or near the 1300 block of Allesandro Street. An Allesandro resident said she heard "smashing sounds" shortly after midnight as a car headed north on the narrow street. She went out and found that the driver's side window of one car had been smashed in. This morning in daylight, she found that the windows of two other cars appeared to have been hit with BB-gun pellets and some side view mirrors had also been damaged.

ECHO PARK -- At least 15 vehicles have been broken into or were stolen during the past week in the Echo Park area, according to a review of incidents on CrimeMapping.com between Jan. 29 and Feb. 4. The crimes took place across the area, from Elysian Heights on the north to Angeleno Heights on the south.

Atwater vehicle owner warns of catalytic converter thieves

ATWATER VILLAGE — The car alarm on Lindsey Ferguson’s Honda Element went off early Monday morning. What was going on? She soon discovered that thieves had sawed off the catalytic converter from her vehicle while it was parked on Glenhurst Avenue near Glendale Boulevard. It’s the second time Ferguson’s converter has been stolen, and now she wants to warn her neighbors about the crime.

East L.A. mourns 14-year-old stabbing victim

EAST LOS ANGELES -- Steven Cruz, the 14-year-old who was stabbed to death in front of Griffith Junior High School on Jan. 23, was buried today following a weekend of memorial services and fundraisers.

Cruz, a student at Garfield Senior High, was headed home on a Friday afternoon when he stopped at Griffith Junior High to visit friends, the L.A. County Sheriff Department told EGP News.
