Fire damages Echo Park bungalow and apartments [updated]


ECHO PARK -- A fire fanned by strong winds this afternoon spread from a bungalow to a two-story apartment building next door before it was brought under control by firefighters. No one was injured in the blaze in the 300 block of Belmont Avenue, according to an LAFD battalion chief on the scene.

Armed robber holds up Echo Park 7-Eleven


ECHO PARK -- An armed man held up a 7-Eleven last night, making off with about $400 in cash while customers were inside the Glendale Boulevard convenience store, police said. The robbery took place just before midnight, said Detective Joe Rios with the Northeast Division.

Glendale police standoff attracts attention in Glassell Park

GLASSELL PARK -- Streets have been blocked off and a police helicopter has been hovering overhead this afternoon as Glendale police are engaged in a standoff with a man who allegedly struck his brother with a hammer. Officers are still trying to determine if the man in his early 20s is still inside a home in the 1800 block of Marion Drive in the Adams Hills section of Glendale next to Glassell Park.

ECHO PARK -- Police are warning Echo Park residents to take extra precautions against break-ins after more than 15 burglaries have been reported since the Christmas holiday in the area north of Sunset Boulevard. How are burglars breaking in? While most burglars prefer to sneak in through side windows and rear doors, the criminals in one-third of the Echo Park burglaries preferred a more direct approach: the front door.

Echo Park car owners wake up to vandalism

ECHO PARK -- Several cars had their windows smashed and damaged overnight on or near the 1300 block of Allesandro Street. An Allesandro resident said she heard "smashing sounds" shortly after midnight as a car headed north on the narrow street. She went out and found that the driver's side window of one car had been smashed in. This morning in daylight, she found that the windows of two other cars appeared to have been hit with BB-gun pellets and some side view mirrors had also been damaged.

Cypress Park crash shears off fire hydrant

CYPRESS PARK — One man was transported to a hospital tonight after a vehicle crashed into a power pole and fire hydrant, sending a gusher of water into the air. LAFD reported that electrical wires were down and there was some street flooding near the 2600 block of N. Roseview Avenue following the collision, which took place at about 10 p.m.

The crimes took place across the area, from Elysian Heights on the north to Angeleno Heights on the south.
