SILVER LAKE -- It's been more than a year since the dance floor went dark and the Go-Go Boys stopped gyrating after MJ's, one of Silver Lake's last gay bars, closed up early last year. Since then, the owners have remained quiet about what's planned for the Hyperion Avenue venue while construction has been on and off during the past year However, construction has resumed, and it looks like MJ's is getting a major makeover.
SILVER LAKE -- Chef Michael “Mick” Schepers opened Haché LA on Sunset Boulevard last fall with a menu featuring 100% Angus Sirloin burgers, made-from-scratch, triple-cooked fries, homemade drinks and select beer and wine. Chants of “ooga booga” and “toro, toro, toro” at the legendary Polynesian-styled Tiki-Ti bar in Los Feliz have unexpectedly ceased, at least for now.
BOYLE HEIGHTS -- With the exception of tiny Art's Coffee Shop and a few other spots, there is little in the way of restaurants within walking distance of the thousands of workers, students and visitors at County USC-Medical Center and the adjacent USC Health Sciences Campus. Now it looks like Art's is going to get some competition. The developers of a 200-room Hyatt House hotel and conference center on the campus property are seeking a sit-down restaurant.
SILVER LAKE — A former laundry next to The Black Cat will be turned into a new restaurant with a total of 120 indoor and outdoor seats if the city grants the necessary permits.
