Mayor Villaraigosa finds love in Echo Park

Both man and beast seemed to give Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa a hard time yesterday when he accepted an urban planning award at Echo Park Lake. Ducks quacked and geese honked while the mayor spoke. Yapping dogs distracted him, too. Even a heckler driving on nearby Glendale Boulevard shouted a few mocking words that were heard over the drone of morning traffic.

But at one point a woman walking nearby shouted “We love you!” to the mayor as he stood at the podium. “Someone loves me,” Villaraigosa said to the crowd. Echo Park councilman Eric Garcetti, standing nearby, brought the mayoral love fest to a close with a classic : “We love you, too, baby.”
