Echo Park Vons might get super-sized

An employee at the Echo Park Vons told customers this weekend that the grocery store chain plans to expand the small supermarket out into the parking lot at Alvarado and Montana. If this is true, it probably means the end for one of the area’s last remaining examples of the swooping arched roofs and windows that were symbolic of the 1960s era Safeway markets.

Of course, there is more than mid-century architecture at stake. Will the popular Taco Zone truck still be allowed to park outside a post-modern, Vons?
