Goodbye, Pinto

Early risers who live near the corner of Echo Park and Morton avenues have probably spotted Evelia, the longtime owner of the El Batey #2 market, walking her dog, Pinto, before the day gets busy. Pinto, who was fond of chicken and hamburgers, but not the pickles, died suddenly of kidney failure, Evelia told me today. Pinto was 14 years old. Evelia said she will not be getting another dog.
