Not even the rain can keep the bulldozers away

Bulldozers showed up this morning as part of the demolition of more than 40 homes and apartments on the 9A school site in Echo Park, reports Curbed LA. Residents who had opposed the project in light of plunging school enrollment and the destruction of historic structures had won a series of court decisions against the Los Angeles school district. But the residents, organized as the Right Site Coalition, could not afford to keep fighting the district in court. So, the bulldozers were unleashed.

Meanwhile, classrooms sit empty at nearby Logan Elementary school while other campuses have dropped year-around schedules as enrollment keeps dropping.
