The race is on to replace Becerra as Congressman

Still no official word if Rep. Xavier Becerra, whose district stretches from Hollywood to El Sereno, has accepted – or has even been offered – the job as top trade official with the Obama Administration. But the list of potential candidates reportedly interested in taking over his 31st Congressional District has grown to include Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina, state Senator Gil Cedillo and Assemblymen Kevin de Leon and John Perez, according to the LA Times and PolitickerCA.com.

“I am definitely considering it,” Cedillo told the Times.

Los Angeles Councilman and Echo Park resident Eric Garcetti is also on the list. Garcetti, who has filed to run for reelection next year, had previously said he had no immediate interest in going to Washington to work in an Obama White House. But a job as Congressman on Capitol Hill might be more appealing.

“Garcetti said it was premature to speculate on a possible run but did not rule it out,” according to the Times.
