Will the Eastside be looking for a new representative in Congress?

Congressman Xavier Becerra has reportedly been offered the job as highest trade official with the Obama Administration, which would mean giving up the seat he has held since 1992. A Becerra spokeswoman told Bloomberg News that “there’s no announcement” in response to reports that he had been asked to serve as U.S. Trade Representative.

Still, that official comment did not keep some people from speculating that perhaps Echo Park council man Eric Garcetti might emerge as a candidate to replace Becerra, whose 31st Congressional District sprawls includes much of the northeastern section of the city.
