Will the Lotus Festival go the way of the lotus at Echo Park Lake?

Many residents were heartbroken when the lotus plants failed to bloom this summer at Echo Park Lake. Now, the popular Lotus Festival, held every July around the floating flower bed, may also disappear. Events like the Lotus Festival that once were exempted from municipal event fees and related expenses, such as the salaries of traffic and police officers, will have to pay about 50% of those costs, under a budget tightening move adopted by the city council Tuesday, reports the LA Times.

“Danielle Brazell, executive director of Arts for L.A., told the council that the change might cause events such as the Lotus Festival to be canceled. The council will take a final vote on the measure next year.”
