A Highland Park girl heads to the Obama inaugural in style

When 13-year-old Jacqueline Mendoza arrives in Washington to attend the presidential inaugural, the Highland Park resident will be wearing a dress made by her father and inspired by a style-conscious First Lady. No, not Michelle Obama. Jacqueline will be taking her fashion cues from Jackie O:

The dress my dad made me for the trip is based on Jackie Kennedys style of clothes. Its a coral pink dress with a hand-stitch top.”

That’s what she said in a story posted on the blog of Councilman Ed Reyes, whose office contributed $1,000 so Mendoza could pay for her trip. The eighth grader at Florence Nightingale Middle School also raised money from her teachers and family after she was invited to attend the inaugural as part of a youth conference.
