You won’t find this Echo Park home makeover on TV

It looked like an Echo Park woman in the middle of renovating her home had found a way to avoid another weekend of stripping paint with a heat gun. A TV makeover show offered to pay $17,500 to renovate and furnish her living room that she has written about on her blog, “Just A Girl And Her 1911 Craftsman Bungalow.” But, after getting a closer look at the details, this Echo Park homeowner is back to stripping paint on her own. Turns out the show would only cover $7,000 of the cost and also wanted to cover up some of the historic features she had been working hard to restore:

“I went through the whole process, got the show, did the paperwork, had the crew over to my house– only to find out they wanted to do my living room, quickly, cheaply, and in a television friendly way. This meant drywalling over the wainscoting, painting over all the built ins and covering the plaster ceilings with drywall … I decided the makeover was not for me.”

Now she wonders if other homeowners would have also walked away.
