Elysian Park burns again

Another small fire broke out this afternoon in Elysian Park, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman d’Lisa Davies. The fire, one of at least four to erupt in or near the park since late April, covered less than 1/2 acre and was extinguished soon after being reported at about 4:30 pm, she said. The fire was located west of Dodger Stadium near Stadium Way and Scott Avenue, according to nearby residents. LAFD has not yet determined what triggered the blaze.

Despite today’s most recent fire, not everyone in Elysian Park seems aware of the high fire risk. One Echo Park resident said she watched a man view the blaze from another spot in the park while he stood amid tall, dry grass and puffed away on a cigarette.
