Police and fire units at scene of reported shooting south of Echo Park *

* Updated Wednesday @ 9:5o AM: One man was killed in Vista Hermosa Park late Tuesday after being shot in the chest by a female suspect, said LAPD spokeswoman Norma Eisenman. Police do not know if the shooting is gang related. The shooter was described as a female Latino; the victim was a described as a male Latino between ages 40 and 45.

Police and fire units reported to the scene of a possible shooting near Vista Hermosa Park just south of Echo Park. Residents say there is a heavy police presence in the area just west of downtown, with patrol officers walking the perimeter of the new park near First and Toluca streets while a helicopter hovers overhead and a fire department ambulance is at the scene. A fire department spokesman said a call of a reported shooting came in at 5:42 pm but no shooting or injuries have yet been confirmed.
