This is why the Bank of America in Silver Lake was surrounded by cops Sunday

Many Silver Lake residents, a few of whom contacted The Eastsider, were alarmed late Sunday afternoon when LAPD squad cars surrounded the Bank of America branch on Glendale Boulevard and a police helicopter hovered overhead. Officers had arrived to find the bank door open but then residents saw a pack of squad cars drive off suddenly sirens blaring in what looked like a police chase. Did a bank robber try to make a daring get away? No, said Lt. Steven Flores from the LAPD’s Northeast Division. Turns out a cleaning crew and set off a silent alarm by mistake. The squad cars rushed off to cover a real crime: a man wielding a machete in Highland Park.
