Echo Park car wash to clean up *

The traffic-choked intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Alvarado Street is perhaps the epicenter of neighborhood blight or, as one blogger put it, “an intersection of … 24-hour despair.” The long-time car wash on the southeast corner has not helped matters much as it slowly slipped into disrepair. The Car Wash on Sunset and the corner, however, might be getting a long-needed makeover as new owners have pledged to clean up the site and improve service. The exterior is being painted and a new waiting lounge, complete with flat-screen TVs and wireless Internet, are underway at the new Sunset Auto Spa, said Robert Ahn, a member of the new ownership group that took control of the business this week.

One of the first challenges facing the new owners were the old owners, who refused to hand over the business after the sale was completed, Ahn said. So, the sheriff had to be called in to evict the previous group. Now, with that drama over, Ahn said he and his partners can focus on winning back back customers from Echo Park and Silver Lake who have been turned off by some bad service as reported on Yelp! In addition to the remodeling, Ahn said prices might also be lowered to generate business.

“We just want to make the experience more pleasant for customers,” said Ahn.
