Boyle Heights punk circa 1982

The many layers of Boyle Heights and East LA history and culture include a punk rock music scene in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Photographer Jose Barrera took this photo of a man named Tommy at The Vex, a club located for a short while in the Paramount Ballroom in Boyle Heights. The club was also located for a while at Self Help Graphics in East Los Angeles and in El Sereno, according to Hijadela.com More about The Vex and the punk rock scene on this YouTube video.
