Seeking support for same sex-marriage in Boyle Heights

Saturdays usually find the sidewalks of Boyle Heights busy with strollers, shoppers and vendors. Joining the crowd last weekend were some newcomers, pairs of gay and lesbian activists who pounded the pavement and knocked in doors in hopes of winning support for gay marriage. It was in heavily Latino and immigrant neighborhoods like Boyle Heights where support for Prop 8, last November’s anti-gay marriage ballot measure, ran high. “That’s where the work needs to be done,” said Arianne Garcia, East Los Angeles regional field manager for the gay rights group Equality California.
