Is this a new record for car break-ins? Police in Echo Park arrested a man they say broke into 16 different vehicles in a single day. Capt. William Murphy in his Northeast Newsletter said the suspect’s own car was filled with the items he had stolen during his daylong break-in spree. But that was just one day’s take. Murphy said the man, who was arrested following a call by a resident, claimed he had broken into dozens of vehicles across the area. Murphy said the arrest resulted in a sharp decrease in motor vehicle break-ins. Car and truck owners, however, should not totally relax. The suspect was released from jail after his mother posted $50,000 bail.
