Think twice before drinking and parking in Echo Park: Many of the bar and club hoppers who come to Echo Park have often tried to save a few bucks by drinking in their cars before hitting the clubs. Noisy tail gate parties in the public parking lots south of Sunset Boulevard had been a problem but it now appears that officers are also cracking down on drivers and passengers drinking inside their cars. Officers with the city’s General Service Department, which patrols the public lots south of Susnet Boulevard, were seen detaining and handcuffing the occupants of some of the cars this week for apparently drinking in their vehicles, said resident Malcom Schenot.

On Tuesday night, Schenot said he saw two young men were being handcuffed while standing outside a dark colored Jaguar. There were two beer cans and a bottle of liquor sitting atop the car. “They think they are getting away with it because they are in their cars,” Schenot said. Apparently not.
