Eastside Cinema: Views of vendors, tunnels & a bluesy hot dog truck

Welcome to The Eastsider’s semi-regular installment of online videos featuring Eastside neighborhoods and people.

This 12-minute documentary in Spanish by Richard Salgado features the lives of vendors – mostly women – who sell elotes, quesadillas and other foods around Echo Park. “I thought it would be different,” said one vendor of her life in Los Angeles. “The reality is very different.”

This apparently student-made film from 2003 explores the legend of the tunnels and secret passages under the Occidental College campus in Eagle Rock. Hope the college administrators make sure no one gets stuck down there.

The “Let’s Be Frank” hot dog trucked parked outside Silver Lake Wines serves as the backdrop for this music video featuring Echo Park resident Jasper Dickenson, who fronts his own blues-soul band. Dickenson works at the Silver Lake wine shop during their Thursday night tastings. One more Eastside connection: the video was shot by Mt. Washington resident KC Chamboredon from Milan Records
