Echo Park neighborhood council president exonerated of assault & sumo wrestling charges

Last summer Luiza-Padilla Mavropolous, an alternate board member of the Greater Echo Park Elysian Neighborhood Council, claimed that she was assaulted in Sumo-like fashion by the council president Jose Sigala following a meeting at an Echo Park church:

“President Jose Sigala bellied me like a sumo wrestler causing me
to lose balance, causing me to twist so I wouldn’t fall …”

Mavropolous took her complaint to the City Attorney’s office, which held a hearing on the matter in October. On Monday, in a letter to Sigala that was posted on the Echo Elysian Forum, the City Attorney said “the case was resolved” and “no criminal charges were filed against you.”

There was no determination, however, about Sigala’s sumo wrestling skills.
