Man stabbed in Echo Park street robbery

A man who refused to give up his laptop computer was stabbed in an early morning robbery on Sunset Boulevard near Alvarado Street in Echo Park, police said. The victim, described as a man in his early 20s, was stabbed at least once in the right leg and was in stable condition, said Sgt. Wayne Guillary with the LAPD Northeast Division. Guillary said the man was sitting on a bench at about 2 AM when he was approached by another man who demanded the victim’s laptop. When the man refused, the robber stabbed the victim and took his computer. The robber remains at large.

An Echo Park resident who lives nearby said police told him the victim was stabbed 3 or 4 times in the leg and groin in front of the Edendale library. The victim then “dragged himself to a payphone and called 911,” said the Echo Park resident in an anonymous comment. “If you have any more info on the circumstances of the crime, victim, or assailant I would be very interested. I’d like to avoid getting stabbed myself!”
