Police searching for gunman in Echo Park *

Police were looking for a man who fired his gun shortly after 5 PM near Berkeley Avenue and Waterloo Street in Echo Park. It’s not clear whether the man, who was accompanied by two women, fired his gun into the air or was aiming at someone, said officer Tom Wong with the LAPD Northeast Division. The man apparently fired his gun after a resident questioned him about his presence in an alley, according to preliminary information. A resident, in an email, said the man was seen running in the direction of Mohawk Street

* Update @ 10:25 PM: Lt. Brian Thomas at the Northeast Division said that officers could not verify if a shooting did take place. “No victims were located. No houses were hit. No shell casings. It’s unclear if the shooting ever happened.”
