A brief burst of beauty along Glendale Boulevard

The commuters who find themselves stuck in traffic on Glendale Boulevard in Echo Park have plenty of time to enjoy a seasonal show of flowering trees planted among the strip malls, fast-food drive ins and abandoned mattresses that line the busy street. These trees are called Evergreen Pears (Pyrus kawakamii), explains Echo Park resident Michael O’Brien on the Echo Elysian Forum:

“Amazing what a little water and the right temperature will do.”

  1. Thank you for posting the name of this tree. Come ’round spring time each year I await for these trees to blossom as I called them the Popcorn tree bcuz when they’re covered in blooms it just looks like a giant popcorn ball on a stick. I Love looking at them and always said to myself I totally wish I knew the name of that tree so when time comes that I buy a home … I’m going to plant one in my yard. Thank you for sharing the name of this. It’s going on my flora and fauna wish list.
