Update: Woman’s “Dream Bug” found stripped on a Highland Park street

The Eastsider is a bit late on this update. But the woman whose 1962 Volkswagen Beetle was stolen off a Highland Park street reports the vehicle – or what’s left of it – was found only a few blocks from where it was taken. The owner, a Texas woman named Rachel who had driven to California to purchase what she calls her “Dream Bug,” said the car was transported to an impound lot after being found last week in the 6200 block of North Echo Street. The vintage VW fan said she is eager to have what’s left of her car returned to Texas, where she serves with the Army at Fort Hood.

“They took her engine, the bonnet, the hood, the fenders, the seats, the rack, everything,” said Rachel of the description given to her by a police officer. “The guy at the impound advised that I buy it back from my insurance company because there are guys at the lot now eyeballin’ her body because they said the body itself is still in good shape. So now I have to play the waiting game with my insurance company to go get her looked at and get her bones as fast as possible.”
