Woman loses her Love Bug on a Highland Park street

Rachel was serving with the Army in Iraq when she fell in love online. The object of her affection: a 1962, two-toned Volkswagen Beetle with white wall tires and a roof rack. After returning to Texas where she is stationed at Fort Hood, Rachel and her husband headed to San Diego County to pick up the $5,800 Beetle from the seller who had restored the vehicle. Before returning to Texas, Rachel headed to Highland Park to visit her sister. On Monday night, Rachel parked her “Dream Bug” near Crescent Street and Avenue 65 before going out. When Rachel returned several hours later, the Bug, which was to have been shipped off to Texas the next morning, was gone:

“I was mortified and had the worst breakdown of my life,
right there in the street. My husband was trying to pick me up from the ground while I was crying … I filled out a police report but they didn’t seem to care much which hurt even more. I am enroute back to Texas right now and knowing that I had to leave in that state of mind without my dream car is killing me each mile I get further away.”

Rachel is now looking for help get her Bug back. She can be reached by email at [email protected] Click here for more details and photos.
