Gang member who killed Echo Park boy receives 93-year-long prison sentence

Howard Astorga was sentenced today to 93 years to life in prison for the January 2009 shooting death of four-year-old Roberto Lopez, Jr. in the southern edge of Echo Park, Associated Press reported. Astorga, 24, was firing his gun at a speeding car but one of the bullets struck and killed Roberto instead. The judge at today’s sentencing told Astorga “he has to live the rest of his life knowing he murdered a child,” according to AP.
