HIV is serious business. But the organizers of this Saturday’s Test-Fest 2010 in East Los Angeles – billed as “Southern California’s largest HIV-testing event” – want to use some fun to attract a crowd. In addition to 10 HIV mobile testing vans and classes, Saturday’s event at Ruben Salazar Park includes live music, free food, video games for the kids and six-foot high inflatable HIV virus balls (pictured above). The carnival-like atmosphere seems to work, said Calvin Flemming with Test Fest. Last year’s event in South Los Angeles attracted 3,000 people, 200 of whom got tested.
